5. Tips for Thinking Through Your Options

Shoot for Effective, Not Perfect!

When it comes to setting up your practice, there is no perfect or ideal solution. Your setup will depend on your specific combination of skills, personal preferences, needs, lifestyle, and client base.  Some will be a better fit than others.  Here are a few things to keep in mind as you are thinking through your options:  

• You do NOT have to implement everything at once, as it can certainly be overwhelming.   
• Each of the solutions can be implemented in a matter of a couple of hours, or even minutes.  Tackle the ones you need most first.
• Demo 2-3 options if you are in doubt. Pick the one you like the most.  
• If you are familiar with something, and it serves you well, there is no shame in sticking with what you know.  There are NO prizes for being most tech savvy!
• The most expensive option or a solution with the most features is NOT necessarily the best fit for your practice.  Sometimes less is more, especially if adding a complicated system will put you on a steep learning curve.  
• Don’t feel that you have only one shot at this and you have to make it right.  You can keep tinkering with your setup! If, after implementing, you don’t feel that the newly added tech is making your life easier or improving the practice or your life, don’t hesitate to axe it completely or try a new solution.
